Karl von Wogau: We need a ban on cluster munitions
The European Parliament will have a debate on cluster munitions next Wednesday, 24 October. On Thursday, 25 october, the Parliament will in all likelihood adopt a resolution demanding the ban of all cluster munitions. Karl von Wogau, Chairman of the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Security and Defence, strongly supports such a ban:
"Cluster munitions have a irresponsible high failure rate. Often not expoding on impact, they remain a danger to communities long after a conflict has ended. It has been documented that 98% of their victims are civilians. We should ban all cluster munitions."
